Weeknote #101 (20260830-20260905)
meta
Due to a couple people being out on PTO, it was an oddly busy-but-quiet work week — I kept a lot of plates spinning, but didn’t get much done beyond that, but that was also kinda okay?
did
- Aside from work, not a whole lot else happened — we were without careworkers for Ms24 for most of the week, which def put a crimp on some of my plans
- See below for details, but this was also kind of an ambitious cooking week, which also kept me busy
- Thursday TheWife and I med up with another couple and took third in the pub trivia at my local, which was fun
- Friday I did a little bit of retail therapy (new low-top Chucks!) but less than I had hoped/intended, because I just couldn’t find the things I wanted
- Saturday I checked out Punx In The Park, which is always a fun event

“There’s no such thing as Just a Tool”
But well… if you’re going to be using a tool like that, it’s incumbent on you to know what you’re doing and be very careful about it. You need to be aware that extended use will change how you see the world and put protections in place to mitigate that (it’s an interesting observation, by-the-by, that regular militaries tend to put quite a bit of effort into that kind of mitigation when it comes to firearms, while police forces often don’t). You generally want to make that kind of compromise as infrequently as possible, and you only want to make them when the problem that you’re facing is drastically bad enough that making that manner of compromise makes sense.

“I Think The Military Commissary’s Freezers Were Hacked” is a very interesting read; no pull-quotes but give it look
-
“Debian and the sirens” is Joey Hess on Debian’s recent decision to allow LLM-based contributions. Worth reading regardless of how you come down on the issue, IMO (and TIL that Joey does not have a Wikipedia article, which seems …wrong)
