Weeknote #42 (20250706-20250712)
meta
There was a week. Some things happened. These are some of those things.
did
- I finally “finished” the rubella dataset I’ve been working on for most of 2025 (scare quotes because these datasets are never really done)
- I wrote one really good skeet — which led to me learning about Interdependence Day
- My Kickstarter-backed Keyboard.io Preonic arrived… which led to some firmware hacking, which was fun
- TheWife and I enjoyed another Peak Harvest dinner, which was fantastic
exercise & shoulder recovery
- Sunday: nothing
- Monday: nothing 8^(
- Tuesday: morning stretches, gym (shoulder stuff, ez bar curls)
- Wednesday: morning stretches; didn’t run because i just felt kinda off
- Thursday: morning stretches, gym (shoulder stuff, zottman curls)
- Friday: ran in the morning (repeated C25K W5D3), then did stretches after my shower
- Saturday: morning stretches, then ~2 miles of walking around downtown and the farmers market

What Is Epazote & How Do You Use It?
Upon first whiff, one might not be inclined to cook with epazote, as it has a pungent, petroleum-like odor. (The word epazote comes from a Nahuatl term meaning “skunk sweat”!) Eaten straight, the leaves can taste like a curious combination of turpentine, mint, citrus, pine, oregano, anise, and mustard greens.

In Praise of “Normal” Engineers is a good read, but having spent a year back in a more academic setting, I’m starting to find it jarring just how much this sort of blog post emphasizes “the business”…
watched
- Finished off NCIS: New Orleans
- …and started Landman (I’ve already watched this, but TheWife hasn’t)
cooked
- penne with chicken and garlic scape-basil pesto on Monday
- spinach salad with bacon vinaigrette on Tuesday
- grilled pork shoulder steak, grilled corn, on Wednesday
- tuna fish sammiches on Thursday
- sausages/hotdogs on Saturday
