Weeknote #19 (20250126-20250201)

meta

i’m trying to come up with something other than “the clusterfuck continues”, but nothing is really coming to mind… the times, they are weird.

did

  • on sunday, i (with some assistance from TheWife) installed a new storm door on our greenhouse — the old one hadn’t latched properly for quite some time, and during one of our windstorms this fall, it got open and ended up destroying itself by flapping around in the wind. Feels good to have taken care of this!
  • work accomplishment for the week: starting the work to ‘modernize’ our rubella pathogen repo. still a ways to go, but it all runs, which is a good starting point
  • appropriately for near the beginning of the year, lots of process-focused “how do we work” conversations at work too
  • we’ve had close to two weeks of clear weather — chillier than i prefer, but sunny skies as a tradeoff — but that ended this week with the return of the rain; i’m just hoping we dodge the snow that keeps popping up in the forecast
  • took friday off, got a massage in the morning (which helped with the bum shoulder, but not as much as I would have liked…) and then the first shingles vax shot in the afternoon
  • also heard back (later friday) about my shoulder x-ray: all normal, which earned me a referral to PT — whee
  • did not suffer any post-vax side-effects, much to TheWife’s disgust

read

  • continued plugging at Dungeon Crawler Carl
  • a toot to keep in mind for the next while:

I would submit that make one little thing good wherever you have an ounce of control is a radical act in 2025

listened

  • not even sure how I stumbled across this but 80s kids is fantastic, if you’re a person of a certain age…
  • 104 degrees

watched

  • binging NCIS: New Orleans with TheWife, mainly
