Weeknote #14 (20241201-20241207)
meta
I’m slouching into that weird liminal end-of-year time period along with, I have to imagine, pretty much everybody else reading this. One major holiday is over, there are a couple more coming in a few weeks, and many, many things are starting to slow down …and that’s okay.
did
- this actually happened last week and I forgot to mention: thanks to a Scott Hansleman toot I ended up buying the FF1-FF6 pixel remaster for Switch. I’m most of the way through FF1 and having a great time
- I also set up salem.fyi, which I’m hoping to turn into a general community-oriented calendar for events in and around Salem. Not quite ready to go “live”, but it’s up in beta and will hopefully be “done” in a week or two more (and yes, “done” includes writing a blog post about how I did the setup)
- At work, I continued to drag my yellow-fever dataset work closer to the finish line — I’m going to be on-site next week and I’m hoping to finish this one off!
read
- I started re-reading the Sentenced to Troll series in anticipation of reading the newest one in the series — currently about halfway through the first book in the series
watched
- Still binging NCIS with TheWife; up to season 20
- …and still watching Criminal Minds on my own; up to season 6
cooked
- turkey stock, using the carcass and other bits (sunday)
- turkey noodle soup, using some of last year’s and this year’s turkey stock (tuesday)
- sausages and peppers (wednesday)
- sablefish with white wine tomatoes (thursday)
- reverse-seared steak with bleu cheese sauce and asparagus (friday)

This probably doesn’t look like much, but that’s a 45 pound barbell loaded with four 45 pound plates, which all adds up to 225 pounds (or 102 kilos for the folks who don’t like Freedom Units). It was fucking heavy, and I lifted it for 3 sets of 5 reps on Saturday.
looking forward to
Onsite next week in Seattle; looking forward to seeing how the city is different in the winter; this will be my first time there during this season, I think.
Also really looking forward to the two weeks I’m going to have off at the end of the year.
