Weeknote #5 (20240929-20241005)
meta
second week in a row where it felt like things just didn’t quite gel. if you find my mojo, please send it back in this direction, okay?
did
- took a sickie Monday — not sure if I just slept poorly or had a very short-lived bug, but I ended up sleeping most of the day
- continued to grind on the Pages Router -> App Router conversion at work
- went to the Salem Makerspace social meetup on Tuesday
- got back into the gym for the first time in almost a month, with only slight regrets at how sore I ended up in the following days …and went back in again after a couple rest days — am i back on a schedule? let’s hope
- watched the Timbers lose a disappointing match to Austin
- wasted most of the work day on Friday troubleshooting weird network errors after a macOS update (blog post to come…)
- went to the 50th birthday party for CET

If your laptop and phone both got stolen - how easily could you conduct online life through the worst browser you have? If you have to file an insurance claim online - will you get sent a simple HTML form to fill in, or a DOCX which won’t render?
What vital information or services are forbidden to you due to being trapped in PDFs or horrendously complicated web sites?
Are you developing public services? Or a system that people might access when they’re in desperate need of help? Plain HTML works. A small bit of simple CSS will make look decent. JavaScript is probably unnecessary - but can be used to progressively enhance stuff. Add alt text to images so people paying per MB can understand what the images are for (and, you know, accessibility).
watched
- TheWife and I are continuing to binge NCIS in the evenings; we finished up season 14 this week and moved right into season 15
cooked
- roasted tomato soup (Monday)
- grilled sausages (Tuesday)
- wangs with buffalo sauce; corn (Wednesday)
- seared albacore with chimicurri rojo (Thursday)
- grilled pork center loin chops, marinated like so, with a simple salad (Friday)
